Freecycle is a nonprofit organisation which lets people help the environment by recycling as well as doing a bit of good for people in their area. Anyone can register for free to either give something away or ask for something they want. Right now, someone in my area is giving away an entire dinner set, while a mother-to-be on a low income is asking for toys for her baby. Good, ethical, environmental stuff.

The Freecycle site can be reached here. You may also be interested in Favorville, which allows people to give and receive favours in a similar way.
