Ban’s against a ban
UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has said on his first day of the job that it’s up for individual states to decide their views on the death penalty. He strongly implied that the execution of Saddam was justified. Departing from the established UN policy against the death penalty is worrying, stupid and reckless, especially in light of Hussein’s flawed trial and Ban’s position as a mediator for the world.
