Hamas recognition

“Hamas acknowledges the existence of Israel is an established fact, the movement’s exiled leader Khaled Meshaal told Reuters on Wednesday, softening the group’s refusal to recognise the Jewish state.”

It will be interesting to see what Israel and the US’s excuse is now that Hamas recognises the state - Scotsman article here.

The Palestinian/Israeli beef isn’t over a two state solution, or any other political problem. It’s religious and Islamists won’t rest until Israel is wiped off the map. You know that, so why the slanted post?

I would first of all point out that your post is equally slanted, but in the other direction. If you’re going to criticise my bias, you must recognise your own bias as well. The reason I introduced clear bias into my post is because I believe it’s justified.

The Palestinians as a whole aren’t seeking to wipe Israel off the map. Yes, that’s the aim of some (including many in Hamas) but what the majority really want is a homeland. They want their own state - the one which Israel illegally occupies - and the right to govern themselves as an independent country. The creation of Palestine doesn’t mean the destruction of Israel, but rather the de-occupation of the occupied territories. Now that Hamas officially recognises Israel and the need for this two-state solution, the proper course forward would be democracy leading to two independent states. Instead, I expect Israel will just carry on flattening Palestinian’s homes indiscriminately in the name of security, no doubt finding some other reason not to recognise Hamas.
