Human rights

The Guardian reports today on a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report that say the EU must lead the world on human rights. I totally agree. The US is in no position to claim to be a proponent of human rights, carrying out countless abuses in the name of the “war on terror”. HRW does say, however, that the Bush administration can still promote democracy. I disagree with this. I think promoting democracy requires recognition and promotion of the fact that with democracy comes the opportunity for better human rights as chosen by the people.
