Comics in the blogosphere

I recently posted a couple of Dilbert comics on my blog, linking to the Dilbert site. I assumed, as with the many other web comics I post, that bloggers were allowed to do this. However, having read the T&Cs I realised I was wrong and had to remove them. I respect copyright, but I reserve the right to say when it’s stupid. United Media, the company behind licensing Dilbert, does not understand the power of the blogosphere. Allowing bloggers to promote content increases revenue and popularity by encouraging clickthroughs to ad-driven sites, also increasing potential for further syndication in print and other media. By restricting the spread of Dilbert, United Media is doing Scott Adams a disservice, as personal blogs like mine will simply use others comics whose creators and distributors allow reproduction on blogs and social networking profiles.

The Dilbert comics can be found here.
