Media classifications

The Guardian notes that Gordon Brown has announced a new labelling system for various media, including websites, which would work in a similar way to cinema classifications. That’s probably not a bad idea. However, this bit’s more problematic:

“Mr Brown, widely tipped to succeed Tony Blair as prime minister, also signalled the need for international agreements to block the scourge of inappropriate content available to children on the internet.”

Quite how you’d go about gaining international agreement over what constitutes “inappropriate content”, I’m not sure… Article here.
