Lebanon was a war
Time reports that, after months of referring to it as “an operation” or “a campaign”, the Israeli military have finally decided to refer to their slaughter of 1200 Lebanese last summer as a war. In the blog post, Tim McGirk notes that military bitterness and public disapproval meant that it took protests by the families of dead Israeli soldiers before the military decided this, as relatives were originally told that gravestones would read “killed in action” or “fell in battle in Lebanon”. Of course, if Israel hadn’t invaded Lebanon and razed it to the ground, 1400 people would still be alive.
