Splitting the Home Office

Nick Robinson, BBC Political Editor, blogs about the decision to split the Home Office into two. Interestingly, while John Reid’s reasoning is to allow greater concentration on counter-terrorism, Robinson notes that the idea is not new for a different reason. For a long time, he says, many in politics have argued that putting prison and probation in a separate department may mean that they are not left under-resourced as the Home Secretary focusses on police.
